Recognising the dedication and impact of student groups at Huddersfield Students’ Union
March has been a standout month, with student groups overcoming challenges, delivering ambitious events, and continuing to build strong communities.
From cultural celebration to creativity, media, sport, and performance, these groups have gone above and beyond.
Pakistan Society have worked extremely hard throughout the year, striving to deliver multiple events for their community. Despite facing numerous logistical challenges, the committee have shown real determination, persevering and excelling in both the planning and delivery of their activities.
British Culture Society have been extremely active this academic year, delivering a wide range of activities in collaboration with the International Office and Students’ Union. They are currently planning their final event of the year — a litter pick around the university and canal side.
As a committee, they have also built strong relationships with other societies and grown their Instagram presence from zero to over 300 followers. They are a delight to work with, always asking the right questions and taking on advice to deliver excellent events.
March saw Musical Theatre Society host their annual showcase, the result of months of hard work from members and committee alike. They collaborated with other societies, including Dance Society, and even featured Nic from the SU in their performance.
The committee have worked incredibly hard to overcome challenges and continue the strong legacy of Musical Theatre at Huddersfield.
Following their second physical publication of the year and the continued release of engaging articles online, T’Hud thoroughly deserve recognition this month. Led by a strong committee, they cover popular culture while also spotlighting activity groups and officer elections.
After a busy and successful Term 2, Swimming Club took their efforts even further in March with an incredible charity fundraising initiative. Originally aiming to raise £250 and swim 21km collectively, they exceeded expectations from week one — raising £600 in just seven days.
By the end of the month, members had raised an outstanding £1,594 and swum over 21km together, all in aid of Yorkshire Cancer Research. The club also shared personal testimonies and dedicated sessions throughout the month, making this a truly thoughtful and meaningful campaign.
Acting and Theatre Society have worked hard throughout the year to rebuild and strengthen their committee, ensuring they can offer the best possible opportunities to their members. Their regular workshops have supported skill development while remaining fun and inclusive.
A huge amount of preparation is now going into their end-of-year show, and all signs point to it being one not to miss.
