Event Description
Welcome to Communiites Camp 2026!
This induction and training day is designed for new committee members of all of the Activity Groups (Societies, Academic Societies, Faith Societies, Global Societies and Sports Clubs) and Academic Reps for 2026/27
The day will be filled with introductions to the Students' Union, the Activities and Events Team, the Voice and Representation Team and useful information for all committee members and reps.
There'll be fun and games and we'll even treat you to a meal deal from the SU shop!
Who is this event for?
This event is open to all new committee members and new and returning academic reps for 2026/27.
- A committee member is a student or researcher who is running one of our Activity Groups.
- An academic rep is a course rep.
If you are a returning committee member, your training will roll over and you do not need to attend this event to cover the training element for ACE Go!
Event Details
- This event is running twice, duplicated on 2 different days.
- The first date is 2/06/26 and the second date is 3/06/26.
- You only need to attend one of the days.
- The event will run from 9am til 4pm.
- This event will take place in Oastler.
- We'll provide free hot drinks on arrival and also provide you with a free meal deal from the SU Shop.
Committee Members - at the end of the day, you will:
- have made connections with key SU staff and other committee members and reps
- have learnt how to successfully set up your group with marketing and promotional ideas
- have learnt how to set up and run events
- have learnt how to take part in SU events
- know how to get involved with the SU community
- know how to get ready for Welcome Week 2026
- understand basic website training
- have planned your aims and objectives for your group for the year
- have learnt all the key aspects of what a successful committee member and activity group is.
- have completed the training element of ACE Go!
Academic Reps - at the end of the day, you will:
- have made connections with key SU staff and other reps and committee members
- have learnt how to successfully reach out to the students that you represent
- have learnt how to take part in SU events
- know how to get involved with the SU community and how the team can support you
- understand the university processes for giving feedback
- understand how you can make wider change for students.

Event Accessibility
This event takes place in OA4/01 (and other rooms in Oastler). There is a lift from floor 4 of Oastler to all floors in the building.
There are toilets, including an all gender toilet, closeby.

Event Terms and Conditions
All Tickets are subject to the following terms and conditions. Please read the Terms and Conditions carefully and raise any queries with the Students’ Union prior to purchase. Purchase of any Ticket constitutes acceptance of these Terms and Conditions on your behalf and on behalf of any person for whom you are purchasing a Ticket.
The Event
- All customers with a valid Wristband or Ticket must be over 18 at the point of Event entry or accompanied by a parent or guardian (please note this is for ticketed Events only). Valid ID will be required upon entrance of all events.
- You shall not bring all or any of the following into Students’ Union Events (this list is non-exhaustive and can be changed at any time): Fireworks, Sparklers, Drugs (excluding prescriptions), Any item which the Students’ Union considers could be used as a weapon (including sharp or pointed objects such as knives), Animals (except assistance dogs), Laser equipment.
- The Students’ Union reserves the right to refuse entry to and/or eject you from the Event. In particular, (but without limitation) you may be refused admission to or removed from the Event for any of the following reasons:
- For health and safety or licensing reasons
- If you behave in a manner which has or is likely to affect the enjoyment of other persons at the event
- If you use threatening, abusive or insulting words or mannerisms
- If, in the event security's reasonable opinion, you are acting under the influence of drugs
- If you have possession of drugs (excluding prescription)
- If you fail, when required, to produce proof of identity or age
- If you refuse to comply with the Event security searches
- If you breach these terms
- If your ticket is void.
- If before or during the event you have a complaint in relation to the event (including without limitation in relation to your ability to view the event), please contact the Students’ Union or a steward promptly since complaints are very difficult to deal with after the event.
- If the event operates a licensed bar you need to be over the age of 18 to purchase alcohol. Please be aware that if we think that you look 25 years or younger you may be asked to provide proof of age and if you are unable to do so you will not be served alcohol.
- By attending the Event, you give your express consent to your actual or simulated likeness being included within any film, photograph, audio and/or audio-visual recording to be used in any and all media for any purpose at any time throughout the world, the copyright to which shall be owned by the Students’ Union or its contractors without payment or compensation. This includes filming by the police or security staff that may be carried out for the security of customers.
- All guests are asked to observe and comply with safety advice, site signage and ‘No Smoking’ areas. In accordance with Smoke-Free Regulations, the tented arenas and other areas of any event are designated ‘No Smoking’ areas. Normal statutory rules and regulations apply and should be observed at the event and failure to do so may result in ejection from the Event.
- If any student is removed from any Event for any reason detailed in these Terms and Conditions the Students’ Union reserves the right to enact the Members Disciplinary Process as outlined in the Students’ Union Bye Laws, which can be found on our website: Governance @ Huddersfield Students' Union (huddersfieldsu.co.uk)
Specific Requirements for Access
The Students’ Union takes the needs of customers who are disabled or who have other access requirements very seriously and actively encourages people of all abilities to attend the Event. If you have access requirements for an event, please register your requirements through the email listed below and we will contact you to discuss them on an individual basis.
Cancellations & Refunds
At the SU we understand that things come up last minute and or plans change. However, we really do appreciate it when people let us know that they can no longer attend an event. In some case, where tickets are limited, it means we can release more tickets to students. If you change your mind about an event and would like to cancel your ticket – even for free events – please contact activities@hud.ac.uk or the person listed as the contact on the event you’ve booked on to.
If your ticket had a monetary value (i.e not free) then if you cancel your ticket up to 7 days before the date of the event, we will issue you a full refund.
If you cancel your ticket within 7 days of the date of the event, we will issue you with a 50% refund.
