The Current System
Students currently manage multiple calendars - their personal schedules, work commitments, and their university timetables through MyHud.
I believe there's an opportunity to enhance the student experience by integrating with the calendar apps most of us already use daily.
Currently, students need to check MyHud for university schedules and separately manage personal calendars in apps like Apple Calendar, Google Calendar, or Outlook. Additionally, the MyHud mobile experience can be inconsistent, sometimes taking longer to load or fully failing to load when you're quickly checking between classes.
Proposal
My proposal would be to allow MyHud calendar synchronization with our current office 365/outlook calendars. This would allow students to add this as an additional calendar to their preferred calendar apps.
I believe this would greaty improve the student experience
For example, imagine if you could see your 9am lecture alongside your 2pm dentist appointment, your 4pm gym session, your 7pm study sessions and your work shifts - all in your iPhone or android's native calendar app with reliable notifications.
Imagine if you're running late between buildings and need to quickly check your next lecture location. Instead of waiting for MyHud to load (or fail to load) on your phone, you could instantly access your timetable through your phone's built-in calendar app.
Additional Information from the Students’ Union
A similar idea was submitted to the Big Ideas platform a couple of years ago. At the time, the University (specifically Computing and Library Services) responded that timetable updates might not always sync correctly with students’ personal calendar apps. They also noted that if students were able to edit their timetabled sessions, it could lead to confusion about when and where classes are actually taking place. However, as it has been a few years since this was last discussed, the Students’ Union would like to revisit the idea and find out whether students are still interested in the University exploring this further.
Comments
I think this is a great idea!
love this idea
I submitted this idea to the tech support team who said they would try to get it done at the next opportunity- glad it’s happening!
It will be more helpful to have everything under same control
